World Environment Day 2023. Climate Action North continues to beat plastic pollution

Design for World Environment Day 2023. We have the solutions. No more excuses.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, where individuals, communities, businesses, and governments unite from across the globe and commit to taking climate action.

The 2023 theme is #BeatPlasticPollution and is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. It is time to accelerate this action and transition to a circular economy.

Climate Action North celebrated World Environment Day in 2018 holding the event Plastic Pollution, What’s The Solution.

It is fitting that on this year’s World Environment Day, and five years on, we are continuing our work to beat plastic pollution.

Sharon Lashley, Managing Director at Climate Action North, said: “We’ve come a long way since that first event in 2018 when we were raising awareness of and taking action on plastic pollution and, I’m proud to say, we have continued focussing on this topic and have several initiatives in place to address this crucially important issue.

“Our North East Action for Rivers (NE4R) initiative take direct action in removing and collecting tree guards and taking plastic pollution from beaches, on the water, on mudflats, and on rocks. All plastic collected is repurposed and reprocessed into alternative plastic products.

“We provide not only a raw material for our specialist recycling company and programme partners Impact Recycling but are also supporting a circular economy approach for plastic.

“In addition to this work, we’re excited about our Training Academy CPD-approved short course “Ocean Pollution, Single Use Plastics”, which is starting to gather interest.”

Climate Action North is also a member of the newly formed Plastics Action Group, which will be working with partners and stakeholders across the North East to address plastic pollution across many sectors and details of which will be released very soon.
