A networking event for small businesses to access practical support on achieving net zero is set to take place on Tuesday 29 November 2022.

Small businesses from all sectors wanting to learn more about net zero and how to achieve it, are invited to attend a morning event organised by social enterprise Climate Acton North.

The networking event, which will be held at Quorum Park, is designed to demystify net zero and provide straightforward, practical ideas and support to act on this urgent issue.

Net Zero Matters is a networking initiative and part of a raft of support provided by Climate Action North to help businesses take climate action.

Climate Action North’s managing director, Sharon Lashley, said: “Becoming net zero offers many benefits to small business including improving resilience and competitiveness, while reducing costs and even attracting investment and new customers.

“We recognise that small businesses have limited resources and we frequently hear first-hand that they feel overwhelmed and are often confused about what net zero means, what they need to do, and how to go about it.

“As well as essential networking opportunities and the chance to hear from speakers who will share their wisdom on this important challenge, we will also give access to practical and strategic options, including our online Business Action Toolkit, and realistic ways to get on the road to net zero.”

Three speakers will join Climate Action North to share their insights and experiences on overcoming challenges around net zero, embedding sustainability in their organisations, offering practical advice, and sharing solutions based on best practice.

Jon Henderson, of award-winning solar photovoltaic panels company AR Power, will be on hand to offer practical advice and solutions for commercial renewable electricity.

Laura McGrath, of Quorum Park, will be talking about how the company has introduced biodiversity to engage the workforce on sustainability as well as a combined approach around rewilding, pollinator planting, and an allotment and community garden on site.

Nick Huston of Daikin UK, who manufacture air source heat pumps, will also explain how they help organisations transition to renewable heating.

Sharon said: “Our speakers include key organisations making a difference as well as helping other businesses. Net zero is a huge challenge but embarking on the journey with the right mindset, support, and connections will make success much more likely.”
