Our world needs climate action on all fronts: everything, everywhere, all at once

The latest UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report shows, despite the unprecedented scale of the challenge, there are many solutions available.

Most importantly, the solutions are available to us now.

Written by the world’s leading climate experts, who say that while the reality of the crisis is bad and it is rapidly getting worse, the report lays out a clear path to drastically cut carbon emissions and repair the damage that’s already been done.

The report serves as “a survival guide for humanity”. In the words of UN secretary general, António Guterres: “This report is a clarion call to massively fast-track climate efforts by every country and every sector and on every timeframe. Our world needs climate action on all fronts: everything, everywhere, all at once.” Read his full statement.

Read the full findings of the report here.

While this report will be used to guide policy debates ahead of and during the Conference of Parties 28 taking place in Dubai in November, we outline what we can do here in the North of England, right now.

Remember, nature is our ally

The report reiterates the important role of nature. When done well, natural climate solutions address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

The Climate Action North Pollinator Parks® initiative does just this.

By creating wildflower meadows and planting native species trees we are restoring and creating natural wild spaces, and giving native insects, birds, and other animals the food and shelter they need. Our approach ensures all planting is done correctly by planting the right tree or wildflower at the right time, in the right place.

Our Pollinator Parks® community rewilding projects include the North East BIC, which is where Pollinator Parks® originated with the first site planted in 2019. This was followed by projects at Dalton Park Outlet Shopping Centre, The Darlington Denes, and at The BIC with SEP Management Co Ltd.

Set your net zero path

The report makes clear that some form of carbon removal, also referred to as “negative emissions” is now viewed by many scientists as essential to limiting dangerous climate change. Companies of all types and sizes now must reduce their emissions, and commit to net zero.

Here are three ways we can get you on the road to net zero.

Remember, knowledge is power

All too often we hear that people don’t know where to start to take appropriate action, or they don’t understand how to go about it.

Our training academy offers a suite of five CPD-Accredited courses to help people gain the necessary knowledge, awareness and recognised formal certification to help them make the right choice, support their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and take climate action.

Subjects include: community rewilding; energy efficiency; renewable energy; reducing emissions and net zero; ocean pollution and single use plastics; environmental awareness and resource efficiency.

Act today

Climate action has never been so critical. This is what we do every day through our raft of engaging and effective projects – and you can get involved with any of them.

As well as those already mentioned, our initiatives include: Global Wilders®, education activities focused on people, places, plants, and animals to restore nature, and conserve biodiversity; and the award-winning North East Action 4 Rivers focusing on cleaning up rivers in the region.

We also arrange regular online and face-to-face events and conferences, plus litter picks and beach cleans.
