Climate Action North empowers young leaders with launch of rewilding committee
Climate Action North has kicked off a new project to grow youth-led community rewilding across the North of England.
The Young Rewilders Networking Group (YOUNG) is now up and running, with initial committee members ready to lead and build the network as part of the wider North East Rewilding Network (NERN).
The committee will steer the YOUNG network, helping young people to get involved with community rewilding. Members will connect with local projects, join volunteering activities, get mentoring and career advice, and explore ideas around social businesses, start-ups, and nature-focused jobs.
As part of the wider rewilding movement, YOUNG members will join events and webinars, and link up with national groups like the Young Wilders and regional champions such as Wilder Northumberland.
Cameron Gough, Chair of the YOUNG Committee, said: “It’s a real pleasure to head up this very exciting YOUNG committee and begin planning activities and opportunities to connect young rewilders across the region and the UK. I can’t wait to start working with the members of the committee who are all highly committed and excited about taking this group forward”.
The committee’s first major task is to plan a spring gathering in 2026 on a North East rewilding site. This event will bring young people together to swap stories, spark fresh ideas, and support nature’s comeback.
Sharon Lashley, CEO of Climate Action North, said: "We’re proud to back the launch of the YOUNG Committee. This is about handing the reins to the next generation and giving them the tools, networks, and confidence to lead. Young people are leading the fight against the climate crisis, and their energy and ideas will drive rewilding forward in the years to come.”
This launch marks another important step for Climate Action North’s goal to build a future where young people are at the heart of community rewilding and nature recovery.
