Rewilding Roadshows to bring nature back to North East communities
Climate Action North is taking the North East Rewilding Network (NERN) on tour, thanks to fresh funding from Rewilding Britain.
This new support will help the network grow as it enters its second year, bringing rewilding inspiration directly to communities across the region.
Over the next 12 months, a series of Rewilding Roadshows will pop up at key locations like the Metrocentre, Dalton Park, Washington, and across the Tees Valley.
Each stop will offer practical advice, hands-on activities, and simple ways for people to become involved in community rewilding, take action for wildlife and climate in their own streets, parks, and community spaces and meet rewilders and their projects across the North East.
The tour kicks off on 6 June at the Metrocentre Community Hub, with an all-day drop-in event. Visitors can meet Northeast rewilders, explore stalls from organisations including Stronger Shores/Durham Wildlife Trust, The Conservation Volunteers, The Sea We See, Dingy Butterflies, Wildcraft, and Climate Action North. Visitors can also join the North East Rewilding free Network and find out about future community rewilding roadshows and events.
Beyond raising awareness, the roadshows aim to build a stronger, more connected network of local projects and volunteers. By touring the region, the roadshow will help grow the rewilding network, connect local projects, work with other rewilding networks such as Wilder Northumberland, showcase local success stories, and open doors to green jobs, volunteering, and training.
They will also help raise awareness of additional sub-networks within the network such as the MARINE Rewilding Network and the YOUNG (Young Rewilders Networking Group), both which will play a key part in the Rewilding Roadshows.
Climate Action North’s CEO, Sharon Lashley, said: “We’re excited to take the North East Rewilding Network on the road and bring rewilding into the heart of our communities. These roadshows are about people reconnecting with the natural world around them. Nature needs people and everyone can do something, whether that’s planting wildflowers, joining our training, or becoming part of the rewilding network, to help nature bounce back. We are thrilled to receive funding from Rewilding Britain to enable and support the Roadshows.”

The time for talking is over, today we need to act.
